X Faces major outages as Dark Storm Hacktivists claim responsibility amid conflicting claims

On Monday, the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) experienced intermittent outages, causing frustration among users. The platform faced three separate disruptions, with the longest lasting several hours, beginning around 7 a.m. PT/10 a.m. ET. During the second outage, more than 40,000 users reported issues on Downdetector, while the third outage saw nearly 35,000 reports of users being unable to load the website at all. The scale of the third outage was particularly severe. Downdetector’s report of these outages can be found here. Elon Musk, the owner of X, confirmed the attack via a post on the platform.

Now, the pro-Palestinian hacktivist collective Dark Storm has claimed responsibility for the attack. However, the connection between Musk’s statement, where he mentioned the attack was traced to “IP addresses originating in the Ukraine area,” and the group’s involvement remains unclear.

Conclusion: The incident highlights the ongoing vulnerability of major platforms like X to cyberattacks, raising concerns about the security of user data and the integrity of online spaces. With Dark Storm’s claim of responsibility and Musk’s comments, it remains to be seen how this situation unfolds and whether further attacks will occur.
